Caption | Until early 2005 this was a beautiful verdant park replete with fruiting mango trees and a variety of palms and grassy areas with seating and lots of shade. It was also home to many stalls and street vendors selling everything from trinkets to crepes, day and night. Then, due to economic and logistic pressures stemming from Vallarta’s growing traffic problem, Parque- parky- Hidalgo was uprooted and an underground car park installed in its stead, despite Joni Mitchell’s warnings. It upset many people who went as far as lying in front of bulldozers when demolition was imminent. Also upset were relatives of ex-Vallartans buried where cars and concrete now reside. |
