Caption | September is the month when patriotism blooms in Mexico. On September 15, Mexicans relive Hidalgo’s 'El Grito de Dolores', honoring the crucial, impulsive action that was the catalyst for the country's bloody struggle for independence from Spain. The celebration wouldn’t be complete without much flag waving and other public displays of patriotism. Flag vending carts can be found on every street corner. Green, white, and red banners made of cut-out paper or plastic depicting Mexico’s national heroes from the independence movement adorn every street. The flags and other paraphernalia are found in greater profusion around the central squares like here, in Vallarta’s main Plaza. The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe is in the background. |
