| Caption | Santa Cecilia earned the title of patroness of musicians and music because of the story that she heard heavenly music in her heart when she was married. Her gruesome martyrdom of course was rather less romantic but nevertheless, every November 22 is dedicated to her honour. Musicians parade individually and in groups through town in full regalia to the cavernous church of Our Lady of Guadalupe which they fill with a thousand violins, guitars, trumpets and stentorian voices. The rest of the day is reserved for feasting, drinking and spontaneous performance in the streets; it’s a great day in Vallarta. |
