Caption | The tower of the church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe is one of the icons of this coastal city. Construction began in the late 1800’s but the tower wasn’t added until 1950, taking 15 years to complete. The crown, which is held aloft by eight angels, is a replica of the crown worn by Empress Carlota, who ruled briefly in the 1860s over Mexico alongside her husband Maximilian. |
